A Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo has released its much-anticipated flagship smartphone named as Vivo Nex S in China on Tuesday, June 12, weeks after the concept version of the flagship was showcased during MWC (Mobile World Congress) in February 2018. In China, pre-orders have already been started on very Next day – Wednesday, June 13.
The Vivo Nex S comes with narrow bezels surrounding its display which was made possible after Vivo came up with an instead exclusive solution to do away with the display notch. The Vivo Nex S sports a solid 8MP pop-up selfie camera (sounds great), which when launches, makes a sound to notify the user. Based on an image released by Vivo on its official website, the pop-up selfie camera is sitting on the top left of the display.

Vivo has released its much-anticipated flagships device Vivo Nex S in China on June 12, whereas Vivo Nex S release date in India is scheduled July 19th, 2018. It’s not clear if Nex S along with Nex A smartphone will be launched in the country or only the most reasonable Nex A will be arriving in India.
The Vivo Nex S has also been launched in other parts of the world such as US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland and Asian countries. As far as Vivo Nex S release date in Australia is concerned, it’s something we don’t know yet.
Talking about its price segment, Vivo Nex S Price in China starts from CNY 4,498 (roughly $680) for its8GB/3128GB variant, whereas other 8GB/256GB variant goes for whopping $4,998 (roughly $760).
On the other hand, Vivo Nex A has been priced CNY 3898 (around $590) for its 6GB/128GB variant. Both Vivo Nex S and Nex A smartphones come in 2 sensational color options – Black and Red.
Vivo Nex S Design
Undoubtedly, Vivo did a great job with the design in its Nex series. The Vivo Nex S houses an aluminum alloy overall unibody. It provides a firmer grip when holding as it comes with curved sides and edges. You can see a dual rear camera at top left corner in a vertical position along with an LED flash following underneath. Talking about its sides, we can see there is a dedicated hardware button which enables you to activate Jovi and ask him anything via voice command. The Vivo Nex S is weighing in at 199 grams (a bit heavy) and measures 8mm in thickness. The device is available in 2 sensational colors – Black and Red.

The concept we saw on Apex flagship smartphone, now has become a reality in Vivo Nex S. The phone boasts an Ultra FullView screen which indicates that there’s no notch, nor bezels, but rather a super small chin. It’s built around a biggest 6.59-inches Super AMOLED display (one of the biggest we’ve seen on a Phablet). The display has a resolution of 1080 x 2316 pixels and 388 PPI density for full HD experience. It brings a unique 19.3:9 aspect ratio and stretches around 91.2% of the complete front.

The Vivo Nex S comes with a pop-up 8MP selfie camera which automatically elevates when you switch to selfie mode. The camera is AI-powered and has f/2.0 aperture too. On the back, there’s a mixer of 12MP + 5MP rear camera having f/1.8 + f/2.4 aperture respectively. The camera is equipped with several modes and features such as Live Photos, Beauty mode, AI HDR, and AR stickers.
Vivo has said that it uses AI techniques which improve scenes recognition photo composition and HDR. Other numerous features include Panorama, HDR, Face Detection, Touch Focus, Geo-Tagging, PDAF, and 3-axis OIS. You can record 4K videos @30fps as well.

The chipset is paired with a whopping 8GB of RAM ensuring flawless and seamless performance. You can launch all of your heavy apps and multitask through them all with ease or even you can play graphics enriched games without getting any delay.
Vivo Nex S OS and Storage
In terms of storage, there are 2 variants – the standard version has 128GB, whereas the cheaper variant packs 256GB. The onboard storage isn’t expandable further, unfortunately. But 256GB can be considered enough to store ample amount of data, is it?
As far as its software factor is concerned, Vivo Nex S runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Funtouch OS 4.

The Vivo Nex S is an indication of the future mobile tech. its pop-up selfie camera making is stand out from the crowd, whereas it’s on-screen fingerprint scanner is one of the best implementations of technology to date. However, the sensor isn’t as good as a conventional one, but overall works great. Unfortunately, Vivo Nex S is a China-only presence and Funtouch OS make it a bit difficult to work with for an audience outside China.
